The Mental Health and Wellness of Your Child is Our Priority

NYC Public Schools has invested significantly in improving our mental health infrastructure citywide. We provide a variety of social-emotional learning, wellness, and mental health services as part of a multi-tiered system of supports in each of our schools.

WHAT MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS ARE AVAILABLE IN MY CHILD’S SCHOOL?

Providing High Quality Mental Health Services for All Students

We encourage you to reach out directly to your child’s school leadership team for specific information about the mental health and wellness resources that are available within a certain school. You can also learn more about your school’s mental health offerings by leveraging the Find a School tool, searching for and selecting your school, and scrolling down to the “Mental Health and Wellness” tab. This “Mental Health and Wellness” tab includes useful information about some of our school-based supports as well as services that are available to all students and families.

What Additional Supports Do Mental Health Continuum Schools Receive?

NYC Public Schools is committed to meeting the social-emotional and mental health needs of our students. All students, regardless of whether they attend a Mental Health Continuum school, have access to high quality, tiered mental health and wellness supports in their school.

The Mental Health Continuum provides additional funding and supports to our highest needs schools in the South Bronx and Central Brooklyn. As part of this initiative, schools receive additional funding to establish or further build out their mental health spaces, to purchase new mental health and wellness resources, to develop the capacity of their staff to leverage a whole-school collaborative problem-solving approach, and to fund per-session activities tied to improving the school’s mental health and wellness offerings. Additionally, staff, students, and families have access to enhanced crisis supports, including: 988 agents who are trained to support Continuum schools, Children’s Mobile Crisis Teams, as well as expedited referrals to community-based care at Health + Hospital Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Clinics.
